Who we are
Hilary Allison

Hilary's friends and colleagues like to joke that trouble follows her around... but actually they have a point. From the inquiry into the Fred West killings to the construction of the Newbury Bypass and from the outbreak of foot and mouth disease to two-high profile sexual harassment and discrimination cases, she's been there handling the communications and all the challenges that presents. It's a job that she loves.
During her 21 years as a corporate communications professional, she's helped to set organisations' corporate direction and influence public & consumer attitudes and behaviour. She has worked with chief executives and corporate management teams, councillors, MPs, independent appointees and partner organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. This has involved helping to foster public confidence in organisations, improving services and boosting reputations.
After graduating in Communication Studies, Hilary trained with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ). She worked on weekly and evening papers in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire before becoming Gloucestershire Constabulary's Press & Public Relations Officer. Five years later, she became Head of Corporate Communications with Thames Valley Police, then Head of Communications & Information with Devon County Council. After a move to Gloucestershire County Council, she became a self-employed communications consultant, working with the private and public sectors to help them review, support and improve communications. She is a member of the CIPR, the professional body for the UK public relations industry.
Hilary has run a number of communications workshops and seminars, including co-directing a national course for police public relations officers, and spoken at many conferences for the private and public sectors. Her focus and impeccable organisational skills make her a fantastic ambassador for the communications sector, and she puts time into numerous good causes, especially animal welfare.
Outside work, her favourite things are her family & friends (including her dog, Chester), walking, music, history, the theatre, good food (as local and seasonal as possible), champagne, chocolate (specifically Galaxy Ripple and Counters) and trying to do her bit to be green.
